The Brief
Phenom needed a Work Health & Safety management system robust enough to stand up to head-contractor scrutiny on major commercial projects and an independent exemplar audit — without becoming a paperwork machine that disconnects from how the crews actually run their jobs.
The system had to genuinely reflect their work: multi-storey and commercial demolition, licensed asbestos removal, heavy plant, working at heights, silica exposure, manual handling and live electrical isolations across multiple concurrent sites. The same level of system rigour you'd expect from a full ISO 45001 implementation — built around the realities of a 30-strong commercial demolition operation.

About exemplar certification
An exemplar certification is an independent audit of a management system against ISO-style requirements, typically used to support licensing or pre-qualification. In Phenom's case, the exemplar audit was specifically against ISO 45001 (the WHS management system standard). The system we build and the implementation work are the same as for a full ISO certification; the difference is the audit pathway. Exemplar certification is not third-party ISO certification by a JAS-ANZ accredited certification body.
